What are polynucleotides?

Polynucleotides cause skin regeneration by stimulating fibroblast cells. These powerhouse cells start a cascade of positive effects on skin quality resulting in thicker, more elastic and hydrated skin.

They can be used anywhere but are a great alternative to fillers and traditional skin boosters in delicate a areas such as the eyes and neck.

Frequently Asked Questions

Polynucleotides can be used on any part of the skin to improve skin quality, elasticity and hydration.

They are particularly useful in the eye area where they have a positive effect on hollows, dark circles, pigmentation and fine lines all at once! They can also be targeted to scars, areas of crepey skin such as the neck or used on the scalp to encourage hair growth.

Minimal to moderate. A potent local anaesthetic cream is applied to the area beforehand to improve comfort and the needles used for injections are short and very fine. However the product itself can feel like a slight sting when injected. We can use breathing techniques or stress balls to help take your mind of it and have plenty of experience helping those with needle-phobias through it.

Polynucleotides work on the body’s own bio-regenerative systems. Whilst early improvements are often seen, the whole picture can take up to a few months.

Results are effectively permanent but due to the body’s ongoing ageing process it is recommended to have a top up treatment every 6-9 months.

Polynucleotides come in 2ml syringes and a variety of concentrations. I will advise on how much is needed and determine what strength would be best. In general 2mls will cover both eyes OR half the face OR a whole neck.

Polynucleotides have very few side effects or contraindications compared to many injectable treatments. This treatment is not suitable for:

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women
  • Skin infection over or near the area to be treated

It is worth noting that polynucleotides are derived from a fish source. Dr Mathewson will undertake a thorough consultation to ensure it is safe and appropriate for you to have this treatment.

We have chosen to use the Plinest brand of polynucleotides due to the quality of their training and customer support.
