What is a profhilo treatment?

Profhilo is a unique and revolutionary product that improves the quality of skin and promotes tissue remodelling. It contains one of the highest concentrations of Hyaluronic Acid available meaning you get a huge hydration boost and plumped up, glowing skin.

It is injected in 10 specific points to maximise diffusion and works over time to promote collagen and elastin formation leading to tighter skin and effective rejuvenation. Treatment areas include the lower face, neck, décolletage, upper arms, abdomen and back of hands.

Frequently Asked Questions

One of the best things about Profhilo is that it can be used on areas that are harder to treat with traditional injectables such as botulinum toxin or dermal fillers. The lower face, neck, décolletage and back of hands are popular areas but it can be used along the backs of arms, knees, mum-tum or anywhere! We would recommend Profhilo anywhere where skin laxity is a problem. On the face this may look like fine lines or the start of some jowls forming and elsewhere more crepey, thin skin. It is also a good option in slightly younger patients (perhaps early to mid-thirties) who want to create that glowing complexion with the added benefit of ‘collagen banking’ to prevent skin ageing.

Minimal. The needles used for Profhilo injections are short and incredibly fine, many don’t feel them at all and other describe them like a brief sting. In certain areas of the face the product can feel slightly irritant as it is injected (approx 20 seconds). We can use breathing techniques and stress balls to help take your mind of it or local anaesthetic if required and have plenty of experience helping those with needle-phobias through it.

The initial treatment consists of two sessions a month apart. The effects of this take up to 4 weeks to reach maximum effect. To maintain the effect (and benefit from cumulative skin tightening treatments) it is recommended to have a single top up treatment every 6 months.

There are certain patients who we would not advise Profhilo treatments to. These include:

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women
  • History of keloid scarring
  • Active skin infection in the area to be treated
  • Active inflammatory conditions
  • Certain medications, in particular immunosuppressants or Roaccutane
  • History of allergic reaction to hyaluronic acid or bee/wasp stings
  • Recent facial surgery in the same area

One of the places Profhilo cannot be used is on the forehead or around the eyes. This is because it attracts too much water so could cause swelling. It is excellent when used alongside botulinum toxin for full-face wrinkle reduction and rejuvenation but if the under eye area is the main issue I would recommend a more targeted skin booster or bio-revitalising agent.

Profhilo also does not add volume so if volume loss is the underlying issue it is likely dermal fillers may give a better result alone or in combination with Profhilo.

There is no ‘downtime’ with Profhilo and you be able to get on with your daily activities straight away. You will be advised to avoid alcohol, strenuous exercise or hot environments for 48 hours and wear SPF 50 sunscreen. An aftercare leaflet will be provided with advice to help optimise your results and minimise risk of unwanted effects.
